From the desk
Notes
Short records on method, façades and the mechanics of the index. Nothing here is a review of a hotel; it is how the entries get written.
Why the price sits in the record
4 November 2026
A recorded price is a fact with a date on it. A quote is an offer with an expiry. The archive prints the first and leaves the second to the operator, which is why every entry says from and carries the day it was read.
Prices here are the lowest published rate for a standard room on a Tuesday in the shoulder season, taken from the house’s own board. They will be wrong by the time you read them in July, and they are still useful: they tell you which street you are on.
Reading a baroque portal
28 October 2026
Cartouche, lintel, sill. Three parts, in that order, and the century is settled before the plaque tells you the owner. A cartouche with a crest that has been re-cut is a house that changed hands upward; a sill worn into a bowl is a house that has been walked into for two hundred years.
The archive reads fronts by period in the facades chapter, because a front is the one part of a hotel the management cannot renovate away.
The hill is not the postcard
19 October 2026
Hradčany at seven in the morning belongs to the street sweepers and the first tram. By ten it belongs to the coaches. The archive notes both hours, because the difference between them is most of what a guest is buying on the castle hill.
Where the casino list sits
6 November 2026
At the door of an entry the desk keeps a short list of licensed casino rooms. On a phone the address opens on that list instead of the entry; on a desktop and to a crawler the entry itself opens — the building, the street, the price. Either way the page is served from this domain, never as a separate site.
The list is a placement and is labelled as one, because it is one. It is kept by licence and payout record rather than by fee, the headline figures are the operators’ own and change without notice, and nothing is charged to your room.
The hotel content and the offer list are separate businesses that share a page because they share a reader: someone who books a house by the bridge and plays in the evening.
Corrections
Dates, authors and room counts are taken from the building record and the house’s own published history. If a number here is wrong, write to the desk at [email protected] with the entry number and the correction will be made and dated.
