Prague is a city of fronts, and a front is a record. This index walks ten addresses that take guests — a painted sign by the bridge, a palace courtyard off Hybernská, a theatre on the Žižkov slope — and reads each one as the building it is, with the price and the noise left in.

Method

A house is a record before it is a hotel.

The archive begins at the pavement. Every entry is built from the building first — its date, its author, its sign — and only then from the rooms. Prices are recorded once and dated; they are not quotes and nobody here holds your reservation.

The reading rules

  1. 01

    Read the front. Sign, stone, date, author — in that order.

  2. 02

    Read the street. Slope, noise, distance to the tram and the water.

  3. 03

    Read the record. Price, rating and the number of people who wrote it down.

  4. 04

    Keep the commercial block separate and say so when it is commercial.
